Actually the recommendation for aerobic
exercise is 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week and
that number doesn’t change for those individuals who are living with
osteoarthritis but the difference is how individuals accumulate that time. So, that
boils down to 30 minutes, five days a week that doesn’t necessarily mean that
it needs to be done in one 30-minute bout. Individuals with osteoarthritis
tend to respond better to aerobic exercise if it’s done in shorter bouts
such as 10 minutes, three times a day or even 15 minutes, twice a day to
accumulate at 150 minutes for the week So it’s not necessarily the amount of
time, that difference they will be doing, the same amount of time as the healthy
population, it’s just in how those minutes are accumulated that’s really
important for individuals with osteoarthritis.
