Muscle-Building Workout and Diet

Hey, guys, Dr. Axe here, doctor of natural
medicine. In this video I’m going to be talking about the many benefits of maca root and how
maca root powder and taking a maca supplement can help naturally boost your health. Now this might surprise you, but maca is actually
in the same vegetable family as cabbage and broccoli. It’s a cruciferous vegetable, and
it’s also an adaptogen herb. So it’s very, very unique in terms of the different benefits
it has, because of the family it comes from as well as being what we call an adaptogen
herb, which I’ll tell you about in a minute. Maca root is grown in typically the high altitude
mountains of South America, most commonly Peru, and it’s been used throughout history
for its benefits of balancing hormones and improving libido. Maca root, as I was mentioning earlier, is
known as adaptogen herb, which means it helps the body better adapt and deal with different
stressors. For that reason, there are several benefits of using maca root on a daily basis.
I’ll share with you how I recommend you use it here at the end of this video. Number one, maca root can really help with
naturally balancing hormones. Whether somebody has an issue like PMS or going through menopause,
or especially an issue like PCOS, that’s polycystic ovary syndrome, maca root can help. There
are some good studies on its hormone-balancing benefits. The reason why it’s so beneficial
is it helps lower cortisol levels. Cortisol is known as your aging hormone or your high-stress
hormone, and when you can lower those levels of stress and hormone imbalance, that’s where
the real healing starts to take place with maca root. Again, maca root can help with
issues likes PCOS and hormone imbalance. The second thing it can also help with is
infertility. There is a large population of women who are trying to find different strategies
to get pregnant. Of course, diet is important. Lifestyle is important. There can be other
complicating factors. But there is evidence showing that maca root may be one of those
supplements or herbs that can really support the body in balancing hormones which could
improve overall fertility. It’s been used that way throughout history throughout South
America to really support the reproductive organs of both men and women, which leads
me to my third way maca can be beneficial, is for naturally improving testosterone in
men. Now, it’s not going to do this for women.
If you’re a woman and saying, “Well, I don’t need my testosterone to be high,” really maca
works by balancing out hormone levels. In men, if you’re struggling with low T or low
testosterone, maca root can absolutely help in that way as well. There are other strategies.
In fact, I’ve got an article on my website titled “Seven Ways to Naturally Boost Testosterone.”
So men, if you want to learn more about how to do that or women for your men, check out
that entire article. But maca root is one of those herbs that can benefit your body
in that way. The number four way I recommend people use
maca root is for boosting energy levels. If you are struggling with low energy, chronic
fatigue, adrenal fatigue, we know maca root can help that as well. So again, start supplementing
with maca root. I do it before workouts. I’ll do it first thing in the morning as well,
sort of getting my energy up. What I do is one tablespoon of maca a day in a superfood
smoothie. That’s how I personally take it. I do a maca root smoothie for breakfast. I’ll
mix it with some cacao and dark chocolate. If you mix cacao, some coconut oil and maca
together, talk about an energy boosting smoothie at that time for breakfast. By the way, if you want to learn more about
the many benefits of maca, I wrote an article about it on DrAxe.com. Just go to DrAxe.com,
search “mMaca root” or “Dr. Axe Maca” on Google, and you’ll find an even longer article, more
details there on the many benefits of maca root. And hey, if you want to learn more about herbs
that heal, make sure you subscribe here to the YouTube channel. I’ve got a lot of other
great videos coming out on different healing herbs and foods and essential oils. Thanks,
guys.

  1. Let's check something first: Dr. Josh Axe, DNM, DC, CNS.
These "doctor" titles mean: Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Doctor of Chiropractic, Certified Nutrition Specialist. In effect it's a guy with a nutrition course certificate who decided to believe in pseudomedicine.
What's that? Glad you asked! It's the use and promotion of practices which are unproven, disproven, impossible to prove, or excessively harmful in relation to their effect — in the attempt to achieve the healing effects of medicine.
Meaning, get yourself a real doctor.

  2. Only benefit I am interested in is to increase my libido, till now I have used products called spanish fly pro where is maca extract but I feel like I need something stronger, eventhought that one works fast!

  3. ive been taking this for over a month and it makes you horny as fook as well as giving you energy, overall well being and a great appetite

  4. He drops the T on "Root" sometimes. And it sounds like he is saying "Macaroo". But Dr. AXe is amazingly wise!

  5. Hello Dr,

  7. There are 4 double blinded trials on Maca root and Testosterone, None of them found Maca root raised testosterone. https://examine.com/supplements/maca/

A small pilot study noted that 3.5g Maca daily was able to reduce menopausal symptoms over the course of 6 weeks in a double-blind crossover design, with no influence on hormones. 14 completed the trial (12.5% dropout).
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18784609

There were no significant hormone changes seen between groups.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19260845

12 weeks of supplementing 1.5g or 3g Maca led to increases in subjective sexuality with no influence on steroid metabolism.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12472620

1.5g or 3g Maca root for 12 weeks failed to significantly alter any measured hormone in serum.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12525260

So, I don't know what studies you are thinking of when you say it raises testosterone but all of the best quality double blinded studies have failed to do so.
Took me 5 minutes, you're welcome
Maca can increase Libedo, no argument there, but it has not been shown to raise Testosterone

  9. Don't mix maca with any drink or smoothie, it will make it taste disgusting. Herbal powders like HGW and tongkat ali I can tolerate, but maca… just capsule it. At the very least, take it with a juice like orange, apple, or grape juice.

  10. If it says "Grown at high elevations and low temperatures" does that mean that it is the gelatinized stuff? I'm wondering cuz i already bought some and been putting it into smoothies but it doesn't say the word "gelatinized". I'm just hoping i haven't been using the raw stuff.

  11. "While studies don’t support the claim that maca boosts testosterone levels, they do show that maca powder benefits male sexual health and fertility." his own website
