Hello friends welcome once again to all channel
health made easy. friends many among you have asked exercises
for umbilical hernia or belly button hernia. so in today’s video I am going to tell you
exercises about umbilical hernia. but before that we should understand a little
what is umbilical hernia and why does it occur. friends umbilical hernia is found in males
and females both. but the percentage in males is just 20% and
in females it is 80%. in males it occurs due to lifting weight with
wrong posture or in those people who have poor abdominal muscles due to their overweight. apart from this if somebody has suffered from
prolonged cough for a long time he may also suffer from umbilical hernia because of the
jerk put on abdominal wall while coughing. in females It is seen during pregnancy or
after pregnancy both. friends the most important reason for umbilical
hernia occurring after pregnancy whether it is a normal delivery or cesarean delivery
is not wearing of abdominal support. and sometimes it is also not advised by doctors
also. but this abdominal support should be weared.
and those people who have recently underwent their Hernia surgery should also wear abdominal
support compulsorily. because it helps our abdominal muscles in recovery. and the recovery increases very fast. friends the muscle which support our abdomen from front side is called rectus abdominis muscle. it has two parts left part and right part. these parts are connected in between with connective tissue. during pregnancy when the weight of uterus increase it puts the pressure on abdominal wall for long time. and due to this weight
sometimes the connective breaks from in between and these two parts get separated and splitted.
and this condition is called diastasis recti or separation of abdominal muscles. those people who do not do regular exercises
during their pregnancy or before their pregnancy regularly they are more prone to this condition. due to the split of these muscles in females
sometimes a hole is generated between these two muscles and the intestinal content protrudes
from this hole. this condition is called umbilical hernia.
in most of the cases this hernia remains painless. and it appears slowly through belly button
as small swelling or sometimes it is seen above or down side of the belly button. friends to know the extent of separation of
belly muscle what you have to do is just lie down on floor and bend your knees slightly. now place your hand vertically above belly
button and press it down through belly gradually. after that place one hand under the neck and
lift your head slightly. you will see a small depression or pit in
the the centre of your belly. and you will see the two halves of muscle in the left and
right part of the belly. and if you are able to feel this
also. then you are also having the problem of diastasis
recti which may be a reason for your umbilical hernia. friends in today’s video I am going to tell
you few specific exercises to revive umbilical hernia. so let’s begin and I will show you how to
do these exercises. so we will recover the condition of the diastasis
recti first. and for that what you have to do is just lie
down on your floor bend your knees slightly. now place your hands across the abdomen on
opposite sites and push these parts with hands towards center. and now lift your head slightly
forward. you will feel a contraction in your abdominal
muscles. Hold for 5 second here and gradually bring
your head down. again repeat the procedure by holding left
and right muscles by hand pushing them towards centre. and gradually lifting the head holding
for 5 seconds and gradually bring your head down. complete this exercise in 8 to 10 repetitions
twice daily. in the next exercise what you have to do is
lie down on the floor as earlier. slightly bend your knees. take a small towel and double wrap it. and
now place this towel under your back. and now gradually bring your pelvis towards inside
by curling in. now tighten your belly muscles gradually and
while doing this press the towel vertically down with your back. when you will do this you will feel that your
abdominal muscles are getting tightened and then release gradually. and come to starting position. now repeat the same process again by curling
in your pelvis and pressing down the towel vertically with your back while tightening
your belly muscles and releasing it gradually. repeat this exercise for 8 to 10 repetitions
twice daily also. in the next exercise lie down on the floor
as earlier. now straighten your legs. now lift one leg up to 20 degrees and hold
their for 5 to 7 seconds and then gradually bring it down. do the same process in another leg. raise up to 20 degree only hold for 5 seconds
and gradually bring it down. do this exercise in alternate leg like left
right left right this way. do this exercise in 10 repetitions twice daily. in the next exercise what you have to do is
lie down on the floor as earlier. now bend your knees slightly. now lift both knees together up to 90 degree
angle making them vertical to the floor. now hold this position for 10 seconds and
gradually brings your legs down. again repeat the process as earlier. lift both knees together. hold for 10 seconds in vertical position and
gradually bring it down. repeat this exercise in 10 reputations twice
daily. those people who have recently underwent there
hernia surgery recently. they should do next exercise carefully and
slowly. what you have to do is lie down on the floor
as earlier. bend your knees slightly. now lift both knees together and bring them
in vertical position. now do the cycling motion with both legs slowly. complete 20 repetitions of this exercise slowly
and then bring down your legs slowly. apart from these exercises taking good diet
also helps in reviving the condition of umbilical hernia. diet plays an important role. you should add protein and fibre more to your
diet because protein helps our muscles to recover fast and fibres keeps the motion of
intestine regular and also boost our energy level. also you should keep fat low in your diet.

to your exercise routine. and you will see that within 7 to 10 days the condition of
your hernia will improve fairly. it may take slight more time in those persons
who are having bigger muscles split or big size of hernia. but these exercises are very effective and

  1. Thanku so much for sharing this. I am sure this will help so many women out there who has this condition, as these days it's very common and doctors only advice to go for surgery. I have a few questions, pls . ans:
    1. Should I wear an abdominal belt or not while doing these exercises?
    2. Can you pls. recommend a belt especially for my condition as you know now.
    3. I have a baby and have no help, so can't afford to exercise twice a day, will it work once in a day, and how much time it will take to cure 100% in my case?
    5. Can I lift my baby, I mean how much weight can I lift?

  3. i am seven months post c section. only from watching videos I realized that I may have umbilical hernia. I am still awaiting my appointment for ultra sound to be done for doctor to diagnose if it is really umbilical hernia. However upon seeing your video I am seeing that I can do these exercises and it would go away?

    Sir, I have some doubts please clarify that, I am a post partum mom and this is my second delivery and my baby is only 2months. After delivery I was doing postnatal exercises but suddenly pain occurred at umbilicus and today after scan Dr confirmed it as a small paraumblical hernia. He advised not to do exercises. But you are advising to do exercise so I am in a big confusion. Can I do exercise please reply. Sir I have to take care of my baby I need to lift baby often also need to do household work like bending over, cleaning, climbing stairs will this worsen my condition. Please reply as early as possible. Please sir waiting for your reply.

  17. I saw yr exercises on umbilical hernia. Since i have been asked to on for a surgery. It has been fixed for 10th june. Frankly, i dont want to ger operated. But can u please advise whether the exercises shown for umblical hernia can be done at this stage? My umblical hernia is quiet big and potruded when i wear clothes. It is almost 4" in length & 3" in width…yr advise will help me in reviving my hernia. And hopefully surgery may not be needed atleast whether some portion will go inside before the surgery. I seen both the videos, those exercises which are useful for persons who hv been asked for surgery and the second specifically for umbical hernia. But my main question was whether these exercises will help in avoiding the surgery. As i have already given you the size of hernia. Considering that what do u suggest? Sir,thank you for the very informative video..I had c section delivery..this is my 2nd baby..now 5 months old..I was binding my tummy for few days but since I got pain I stopped binding it…now Dr has confirmed that I have UH 1.6 cm..if I start binding my tummy again and if I do this exercises regularly, will the hernia get cured and will my tummy go inside??? Kindly reply please…
