What’s going on everybody I’m Scott from Scotthermanfitness.com and I’m gonna demonstrate for you how to do a dumbbell military press also known as a dumbbell shoulder press. First thing you do is grab your dumbbells, and then you’re gonna pick a bench with the seat totally upright. Some gyms have seats that are primarily like this. This is an adjustable flat bench, so all you’re gonna do is just bring it all the way up to the top, and that’s the right position for you to do this exercise. What you’re gonna do is just grab your weights. Sit so that your feet are firmly planted on the ground and simply bring the dumbbells up so one, two and now keep your back against the pad keep your head in the pad maintain a neutral spine keep your elbows in line with your hips so your arms will actually in front of your body a little bit, then you’re gonna push straight up and when you come down you’re gonna come down to 90 degrees, also make sure you keep your wrist straight. And you’re gonna breathe out as you exert the force which means the force is going up so bring it down ninety degrees. Up! Breathe up down breathe up on the way up. Now notice that when I’m coming down I’m not coming down like this and putting all the pressure into the joint rotator cuff that’s not good, what I’m doing is I’m coming down on my elbows in line with my hips a little bit in front of my body. So like that, that brings more of the shoulder into play The wrong way again is when you come down like this not good so back flat, neutral spine, push straight, breathe out on the way up.
