Muscle-Building Workout and Diet

what’s going on YouTube sleeo Venus here have an interesting video for you today just kidding John Venus is also here what’s going on guys today we’re going to do a different kind of video gonna experiment try something new and it’s just us talking about a topic and taking advantage that my brother’s here because he is vegan yeah as you can tell so topic of veganism is a very sensitive subject on the internet and a lot of conflict going around and misconceptions and the misinformation all that kind of stuff so this time I’m going to take advantage that my brother is here he knows a lot about this and we’re going to talk about it and every single research and the things we talk about I’m going to link it in the description box below so if you guys are interested go down there and check the link out and you’ll be able to learn more about it we’re gonna relate it to fitness and bodybuilding how many calories do you normally consume in a day I’ve never measured under 5,000 and sometimes it’s up in 7,000 so it’s definitely quite a lot of calories you know every anywhere between five and seven thousand calorie lift your shirt up let’s see how fat you are see ya so obviously not too much body fat at all so that’s 7,000 calories guys probably three times as much as you know some of my friends that do bodybuilding eat so the first question is it possible to build muscle while being on a vegan diet plenty of people have grown a lot of muscle on a pure plant-based vegan diet for putting on muscle do you think it’s necessary to get you know extra protein from protein powders for optimal muscle growth to put on muscle mass you don’t need protein powder protein you get from foods you can you can get enough protein from eating just the plant-based vegan diet or a meat-based diet doesn’t matter what you eat you will get enough protein if you don’t want to plan your diet and make all the food you want to eat and have everything planned protein powders definitely can make it a little easier to make sure you’re getting enough protein but you’re willing to just make it your own smoothie with oats and stuff like that before you go to the gym you don’t need protein powder oats that’s that’s not protein that’s carbs man what are you talking about oats man oats 13 grams of protein 400 that’s a lot of protein if you have to two grams of oats that’s already 26 grams put in a couple bananas that’s 30 grams you can get plenty of protein without the protein powder but like I said you know out of convenience protein powders can definitely make it easier that’s one of the biggest misconceptions I think is there is so much protein from you know oats and rice and all stuff and beans and people don’t even realize that you just like people think you either need to eat a lot of meat or drink a lot of protein shake to build muscle but in reality if you’re eating as like a lot of protein from Whole Foods and on top of that getting a lot of protein from from protein powder and stuff like that it could easily be overkill you don’t really need that much protein you have all the type and then a fitness industry about protein powder and and how we need so much protein have you ever heard of somebody just falling down and go in a hospital he was protein deficient you know he didn’t have enough protein that doesn’t exist you never hear of someone having too little protein the average woman needs 40 and the average man is 50 grams of protein a day obviously if you’re building muscle you’re probably going to want some more but you know how much more do you think you really need 300 grams 400 grams of protein a day you know it sounds to me like that’s definitely going all over the line proteins are broken down into ammonia derivatives it’s called the urea cycle all proteins have this toxic part of the amino acid that is excreted through our kidneys eating more protein than you need is definitely going to be an extra workload so to speak on your kidneys but if you’ve got healthy kidneys and you drink a lot of water the risks aren’t super high so I’m not saying eat too much protein you’re gonna have kidney failure straight away definitely water intake if you’re on a high-protein diet is definitely unnecessary right every waste product our body has everything that gets excreted gets taken out of body use water drink a lot of water guys it’s it’s essential to health if your pee is yellow you need to drink more water that’s exactly why you should be looking at when you take a piss it should be white weight okay maybe not white transparent baby yeah I forgot water look if you’re pissing white piss maybe get that checked out guys so another thing that is widely discussed is that people think that animal protein is a lot more complete and in the amino acid profile so what you have to say about that definitely one of the biggest misconceptions about the vegan diet all amino acids that we need that our body needs we can get from plants think of it that way where did the animals we get their amino acids you know they get it from plants so it’s absolutely possible can go on to mention this study that John will probably link in the description about this topic about an animal protein versus plant based protein in terms of bodybuilding and muscle mass the interesting thing about these studies is that they’ve actually shown that all animal proteins have higher concentrations of sulfur all the amino acids that sounds maybe really like complicated but it’s just amino acids that you know have sulfur in them and what they do in our body is that they are certify our body and when you have this acidic environment in the body which is called acidosis the mechanism of the body to neutralize that acid is actually to take out calcium from your muscles and from your bones that is bad because all your muscles use calcium for all contractions everything like that calcium is super important for muscle function so these studies talks about how animal proteins have actually shown a tendency of animal protein the acidifying protein that acidifies your body you lose muscle especially older people now young people especially young men have so much testosterone that even though you eat a lot of me you can still put on muscle mass but the study actually showed that eating meat and animal protein slows down your muscle development so they’re saying that you could actually grow even bigger even faster if you had less of these acidic amino acids what if you drink a lot of milk so you get enough calcium to fight against the acidic effect of animal protein doesn’t that you know make it equal again everyone from from a small age gets taught that milk is good for your bones milk you know lots of calcium is strong bones milk actually has the opposite effect and the reason why has the opposite effect is actually a couple reasons the first reason the calcium in milk is actually not assimilated properly by us we don’t we don’t absorb the calcium as well as we absorb from other sources the second reason is exactly what we talked about before animal protein the animal protein in milk will acidify your body and will make you take out calcium from your bones and muscle look at the statistics either it’s pure you know crazy coincidence or there’s more to it the countries with largest milk consumption and the on the planet and then you look at that statistics for the countries with the most osteoporotic on the planet what about fish fish is actually the food with the highest concentrations of methionine which is one of these so for holding amino acids that will acidify your body all chemical industries or nuclear industries where where do we put all the all the toxic waste all the poisonous stuff where where does all that go now the easiest most convenient place to throw it all just dump it in the sea you know it’s gone you don’t see it even if it’s wild fish the sea is such a polluted place that you can find lots of heavy metals like mercury and really high concentration of these really poisonous substances that you really don’t want to be getting into your body plant-based foods have a lot less of these sulfur holding amino acids they have alkalizing tendencies so they have an alkalizing tendency which is the opposite of acidifying you want to have an alkaline environment in your body you don’t want to have an acidic environment there is another misconception that you know eating in a cholesterol from eggs is the best way to boost your you know testosterone production your body yeah cholesterol is one of the biggest structural components of the starzone so many people it seemed logical thingie a cholesterol we need to ease cholesterol to make the sauce turn so our bodies actually have their own biosynthesis of cholesterol our body makes cholesterol by itself in the liver the liver makes all the cholesterol you need so the cholesterol they eat actually has a tendency of staying the blood which is you know the main cause of atherosclerosis or heart disease and strokes and all of these infox and stuff that is the main killer around the Western world because of the Western diet is so high in cholesterol it’s completely a myth that you need to eat cholesterol because all our cells have cholesterol testosterone is buildup of cholesterol estrogen lots of hormones you know so it’s you definitely don’t need to eat it you can post a link of on this other research it’s about the testosterone levels and vegans versus meat-eaters and this kind of puts the myth to rest that a vegan will have less testosterone so one thing is that we eliminate all meats and we’re getting the protein from high carbohydrate sources right so a lot of beans a lot of oats Kino rice all that kind of stuff so a lot of people think wow that’s so much carbs I’m gonna get so fat on a vegan diet why do so many people fear carbs a lot of people think that carbs turn into fat right and the truth is we have this metabolic pathway or these reactions in our body that can convert carbohydrates to fat but actually has a 30% energy cost so only about 70% of the carbs that are actually activated to be turned into fat will actually turn into fat this pathway metabolic pathway in humans is actually really small so mostly carbohydrates that we get you know burned off and carbohydrates can actually be self oxidized they can actually basically burn themselves away so to speak rather than as fat which definitely doesn’t oxidize self and is purely just you know gets just stored it’s pretty much already in stored mode you know it just goes straight to your storage which is there your adipose cells or your fat cells and they’ll just stay there until you you know you use it up so that’s why a lot of people a lot of body there’s they either go high fat low carb or high carb low fat so obviously if you’re a vegan you’re eating a shitload of carbs so obviously you’re gonna try to you know lower the fat level down so you don’t put on unnecessary weight right Lily you know that’s a vegan you absolutely as a vegan you know you have the stereotype of vegan being really skinny but there are plenty I promise you there are plenty of fat vegans around too so you know you have all high high fat foods you have you know peanut butter you have french fries the point is you have to keep your fat intake low you know our body’s preferred source or fuel for energy is carbohydrates so yeah guys when you’re thinking about the science of it of course one calorie is a measure for energy so one calorie is one calorie but depending on the source of the calorie whether it comes from protein fat carbohydrates the way that calorie is used in the body is completely different you have different metabolic pathways different reactions for for the different food sources you will gain a lot more fat from eating a little little bit too much calories of fat than a little bit too much calories of carbohydrates because of the fact that carbohydrates can actually pretty much burn themselves off you get this dietary thermogenesis I know if you guys have ever noticed it but if you’ve eaten a big meal of almost pure cover carbohydrates you feel like you’re warm almost-wedding that’s because of this thing called dietary thermogenesis oh yeah guys uh I’m about experimentation like I would experiment anything and I encourage you guys to do the same you know the science is there you can’t rely on the companies and you know the government all kind of stuff to tell you the truth you got to find it for yourself I wasn’t always vegan I ate a lot of me beforehand and now I’ve been vegan for almost two years and I put on a lot of muscle mass on a vegan diet yeah I can add I’ll put a here’s a before and after picture of him by the way in the past two years on the vegan diet there’s plenty of meat eaters who are a lot bigger than me but I can also tell you there are a lot of vegans who are a lot bigger than me as well so not only is it possible to be big on vegan diet but if you believe in science it can actually no actually looks like it can be better to build muscles to go on a vegan diet this topic brings a lot of hates the more research I do the more I learn and the more I realize you know everyone’s full of you got to do the research yourself don’t let the puppet master steer you guys so that’s pretty much it for the video leave a comment limit if you like this video subscribe alot of videos coming soon peace out

  1. Seriously I was a meat eater, after trying the vegan diet I recover fast from workouts, gained mass and seems to have more energy to work out. These guys are right, don't believe it? Put it to the test! One things is true on both sides, eat eat eat!!! Sleep sleep sleep!!! And if you want it bad then make the sacrifice to achieve your goals!!!

  2. HEy babes!

Everything is awesome what u told us in this video, except those fats wont make u fat. Telling u i'm 110 lbs vegan and I eat sometimes a pound of nuts.. but I do eat them daily.

  3. I'm still currently a meat eater although I have been cutting down meat and animal products from my diet. This really helped and informative. Slowly making the change. Thank you

  4. I love how these guys defend animals like a lion would see a human in the wild and say you know what I'm gonna let him live because killing him is not right, go on human live a good long life

  5. Add more examples of plant based meals, smoothies, soups, as pictures or short videos in your videos.People need more eye candy of examples.

  6. But dawg, if you get enough protein in your everyday foods and don't need protein powder, why in your latest videos do you use that branded protein powder almost on every video?

  7. Not saying you are wrong but eggs aren't linked to coronal disease. In fact it's one of the best foods you can eat.
http://pasted.co/fda62bf9 has an extremely rich collection of papers related to what I say, compiled by a spanish youtube channel and powerlifting team (one of its members has the current guiness world record for heaviest pull up).

  8. I admire vegans. I'm afraid to do it because of what people will think.
I'll watch a few more of Jon's videos, maybe if I can get a meal plan sorted and learn more about what my body needs, I can make some sick vegan gains!!

  9. I don't eat meat ?
After my workout I put in the blender two BANANAS , a scoop of MACA ,, PROTEIN ,, PEANUT BUTTER ,, ADD WATER ?
If you are fat want to lose weight , stop eating meat and you will see how fast your weight drops .
Do know in the farm they injected animals to make them bigger ,,This is the why people are getting bigger ?
If you are eating meat ,you are poison your body ? If you taking medication ,STOP EATING MEAT YOU WILL BE OUT OF MEDICAFIONS ??
This is the truth , take care & much love by ,
    ( B.K.A ) MONO .

  10. Short answer
    Yes
    Long answer
Yes but it would take waaaay more time then a normal meat eater and you would need to eat waaay more

  11. 5000-7000 cals/day, I don't believe that. Upload a video where you consuming 7000 cal for 3 days running. I think that was a misjudged guess. For the size of the stomach you have and for the size you are in general you will not be able to eat that much every day. I'm 95kg, I eat a plant based diet, and I struggle to get to 4500 cal/day without eating every 2 hours, my stomach grossly distending, feeling massively bloated and consuming at least 1000 cal from junk. You can see people doing the 10,000 cal a day challenge just to see the sheer amount of food and junk it takes to reach.

  12. Thanks, i really enjoyed this video.
Its so true the government and big business mislead us all the time.
    Thanks for being honest.

  13. Hey guys, thanks a lot for your education and support. I have been on the vegan change for 6 days now and the truth be told I feel limitless without the cruelty to animals. Also your meal prep videos saved me so much confusion and time, thank you again Jon

  14. Vegan is BS! Name one Olympian WL vegan? Crossfit Games who made been Vegan? 100m tracker ? Or 200, 300….. any high performance athlete please…? Stupid Vegan plant eaters 😂

  15. Great video, thank you. I did notice however that you didnt mention anything about fibre. Especially from eating a lot of beans/legumes. What effect will eating A LOT more fibre have on the body. Is it even an issue?

  16. I've been on a vegan diet for just 4 weeks. I feel amazing, less fatigued and I'm already lifting heavier!!

  17. seriously??? you better come back later, when gained some muscle – but on the other side – fast closure to see, that vegan doesnt work… btw – plants are also life, but vegans are maybe radicalic anti plant guys :D??

  18. The nutritional value what I found200 grams  of oats with without salt & milk, I find only has 5.2 grams of protein, 1 gram of protein in a banana

  19. I do about 80 grams of protein a day!! It depends on your optimum weight. He’s correct about too much protein and the kidneys go into a hyper state. It’s like red lining your engine in your car constantly! Shalom

  20. Lots of good information. I’ll be honest I was looking more towards specifics on what to eat. I read that when a bean combines with a grain it becomes a complete protein, and I guess that’s where my research is gonna take me next. How to get all the complete proteins, or even do you need to? I’d think you’d want to. But this was cool, and y’all don’t seem too douchy! Subscribed

  21. You're not gonna get anywhere as a bodybuilder by trying to go vegan. I'll tell you why. You need protein to stay fit and healthy, and to basically stop yourself from being constantly hungry all the time. I'm on a regular vegetarian diet right now and it's bullshit as far as bodybuilding goes. I'm constantly hungry and am snacking on junk shit all the time because I'm not getting enough protein. Eggs aren't even really cutting it for me. So, yeah, I wouldn't even advise going vegan or vegetarian if you want to get into bodybuilding. The best you can do is occasionally eat alternative non meat sources of protein, but you still basically need meat. Sorry.

  22. Animal fat only substance neutralises nitrogen created by protein assimilation. Plant based proteins aren’t whole proteins. Your body can only store finite amounts of amino acid created from proteins.
It’s not about quantity it’s about how well you can assimilate protein in your body. I eat less than 100gms protein per day. Its about fatty meat not lean meat protein. All vegetable oils (actually grain oils) are an inferior substitute for animal fats. Vegetable oils don’t neutralise nitrogen. All vegetables not leafy greens, and even some of them have carbs. The fibre doesn’t negate the carbs, there’s absolutely no clinical scientific studies which proves this hypothesis. Age and metabolism are a huge factor in muscle growth.

  23. Thank you so much for this very very informative video, which I just sent a link for to my daughter. The information is so important, and also, I love the low-key style of it… just 2 brothers chatting on a park bench. Thanks so much for your help!

  24. Outstanding education regarding plant vs animal protein, protein requirements, amino acids, acidosis, etc! I’m an RN and nutritionist and find it is a never ending task to bring this information to the public. Great job!

  25. I too believe that a plant based diet is a healthier alternative but please do not let this fact fool you into believing that a plant based diet is a better choice for even the most amateur of bodybuilder. He is spot on about avoiding protein powders for a number of reasons, one of them been the high amount of heavy metals (arsenic, lead, mercury to name a few), mycotoxins and residual solvents which can be found in nearly all protein powder including the ones which are plant based.

  26. Thanks that was an informative video and I love the Before & After picture of your brother that's proof in the pudding showed I put on some nice solid muscle mass I've just been looking for ways to eat better I've been a vegetarian almost vegan for year but I feel like I haven't maintained enough muscle in my body not that I exercise and I was looking for alternative ways and you guys gave me some good ideas here I really appreciate listening to the science thanks for taking the time to make the video it was obviously for people like me

  27. that was really interesting thank you, im vegan but im skinny and wanna be lean and strong but find it hard to put on muscle

  28. Gladiators eat only bean at the ancient times , 6 months before fighting in arena they doesn t eat meat for better performances ( sorry i don t speak english very well ) congratulations 😃

  29. For most people eating all those carbs in Oats such as getting only 26 grams of protein for 200 grams of Oats and the bananas you talked about, most people cannot and will not loose even an ounce of body fat eating that many carbs and will have very unstable blood sugar levels. And you are saying to eat this instead of meat or animal based protein for a meal. I know if I eat Oatmeal I get fat really quick. The only way I can keep my body fat down is doing lots of nuts/seeds/eggs/ some meat/some cheese/some beans and lots of leafy greens and other vegetables and sometimes berries. I try to stay away from anything processed. I don't even like most protein powders because they always make me feel really weird, even the vegan kinds. My body doesn't like processed anything. And anything else concerning the foods I mentioned, spikes and crashes my blood sugar and sends it on a roller coaster to where I have no energy, it is like that for anyone I have trained with. And the guy promoting this vegan bodybuilding diet is not that big at all. What is a wise thing to do is study your ancestral line. If you have native blood or hunter gatherer your body will not do well if you go vegan and you could get very sick going vegan. You gotta do what your body has evolved into from your ancestral line.

  30. Thank you so sooo much very informative and really helped me solidify some things that i wasn't quite sure about. Both very likeable people making it very easy too watch : ) Thanks again really appreciate it.

  31. You dont even look like u lift lol you did a shitty job of convincing me it can work lol Another group who thinks their way is the.only way.

  32. They are well informed when it comes to getting protein from other sources besides meat but they are not that informed about protein the real reason to is it necessarily that there's a deficiency and actually you can go to the hospital for not having enough protein it's called not eating and what happens is that less protein you have the less muscles or get if you don't have enough protein and this comes from several doctors who have degrees your muscles shrink you won't get results

  33. I will say this you can get complete proteins from plants but it's not very many glanced have it so I guess be willing to spend extra money to get them

  34. proteins from veggies are incomplete therefore needs knowledge of associating vegetables to obtain equivalent. you need knowledge to be vegan and acquire what you need for muscular groth which is not required if you eat meat.
    milk takes out calcium ??

  35. You see, I can't afford to consume carbs because of health issues. 12 oz of salmon has 60 grams of protein and just 580 calories. I don't think there's a natural vegan or vegetarian food that has higher portion of protein/calorie ratio. Same for chicken breasts. I have to be on a high protein, high fat diet. Please suggest if there are natural vegan sources available

  36. Really blown away on how much this guy knows! He really has the facts down. I'm subscribing based on the fact there is no BS here.
